Children's Mercy Pediatric Residency Program

Updated: Jun 5, 2022

How would you describe the culture of your residency?

A residency training experience at Children’s Mercy combines outstanding clinical experiences covering the entire array of pediatric medicine through an extremely diverse patient population.

Residents have the opportunity to work alongside dedicated pediatric faculty with a focus on academic medicine and a passion for teaching. With more than 500 faculty members in our divisions, sections, and centers of excellence, you'll have support from the Department of Pediatrics, one of the largest and most comprehensive in the country.

Our residents complete their training as outstanding general pediatricians, who are well prepared to work in a variety of clinical settings. We are proud that our graduates are extremely successful in garnering competitive fellowship positions and are highly sought after for general pediatric jobs, ranging from community pediatrics to hospital medicine.

Children’s Mercy is consistently ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the United States and for the past 10+ years has been ranked as one of the best places to work in Kansas City. As a vibrantly diverse and welcoming Midwestern city, Kansas City is balanced with a thriving economy of small businesses, tech start-ups and headquarters of major companies including Hallmark, Cerner and H&R Block. Each year, Kansas City receives national rankings for livability, affordability, innovation and technology, culinary arts (especially barbecue!!) and the fine arts.

How has your program supported resident wellness?

How has your program supported diversity, inclusion, and equity (DEI) either at your institution or in the surrounding community?

What are unique features of your program that you would like to highlight?

Our program has multiple unique experiences including a global health track and CHiCoS Clinic (Spanish bilingual clinic). We offer multiple electives per year as a way to customize curriculum per resident's interests. We regularly hear in our feedback after recruitment that our benefits are the best that applicants saw while interviewing and were a huge perk when considering how they would affect lifestyle while training in Kansas City.
