Medical Spanish Taskforce

Follow-up on Resolution No 5, Policy Summit 2018

There is no need to reinvent the wheel. The Medical Spanish Taskforce, led by Pilar Ortega, MD, has created an evidence-based, standardized Medical Spanish curriculum for medical schools across the country to adopt. There is currently a pilot study comparing schools that adopt this standardized curriculum to schools that offer other Medical Spanish learning opportunities. If your medical school is not interested in adopting the new curriculum, it can still join as a control group!

Schools can still participate in the national curriculum study and get involved on a rolling basis. We expect this to be an ongoing study over the next 2-3 years.

The Medical Spanish Taskforce will be having a Medical Spanish Virtual Town Hall taking place on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 1pm ET for an update and Q&A regarding the Medical Spanish Taskforce. You can e-mail MedicalSpanishTaskforce@gmail.com if you want more information or would like to receive an invitation to the Town Hall meeting.

Students who specifically want to get involved in manuscript writing and analysis regarding the national study can also contact us at the email above for more information.

Letter from Drs. Pilar Ortega, Cristina Pérez-Cordón, and Tiffany Shin:

Queridos/as colegas, Dear colleagues,

In preparation for our upcoming MST Town Hall meeting (scheduled for Saturday, April 4th from 1-2:30pm eastern time), we wanted to share with you the overall goals of the town hall:

Medical Spanish Virtual Town Hall's goals:

To give/share information to/with Medical Spanish Taskforce members and those interested in collaborating.

To offer support to each other in these uncertain times in a safe bilingual space.

I know it may feel particularly difficult to attend the Town Hall in this overwhelming, over-scheduled, and stressful time, but I also believe that our togetherness and active participation and collective virtual enrichment are all the more important to support each other!
