The danger of the diagnosis

Differentials.

Tests.

Treatments.

All guided to a phrase that carries so much weight.

Something that you didn’t ask for but ultimately becomes your identifier; your label if you will. You end up adopting this label. Carrying it everywhere you go; when you’re grocery shopping, in the fitting room, or talking to your loved ones. It can become a confounding factor. Determining your every move. Making you prisoner to your own body.

You try so hard to counter act it but inevitably it will always be there.

Until... we take the first step to not let the diagnosis define us.

I encourage future physicians to understand what it’s like being diagnosed. We hold a lot of power. Power that can change a person’s life, forever;

their behaviors and those of the ones around them.
