About the Author:
Orthopaedics is one of the least diverse fields in medicine, where only 7% of practicing orthopaedic surgeons are women. Part of understanding and changing this number requires looking at the experiences of the outliers in the field. This study aims to strengthen our understanding of challenges faced by female orthopaedic surgeons in the workplace. Recognizing and addressing the biases that women orthopaedics face is essential in order to improve the proportion of women who go into, and ultimately thrive, in the field.
