Jaleen Marquez

Robbins College of Health & Human Sciences at Baylor University Graduate student

My name is Jaleen Marquez, and I am a graduate student in the Medical Sciences program at Baylor University. I completed my undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology while being involved in pre-medical organizations, working as a medical assistant and volunteering with underserved communities. My passion for art began at a young age where over the years I grew through art competitions, classes and the creation of my small business focused on customized art and event decorations. During my undergraduate studies, I attended the 108th American Medical Women’s Association where I witnessed how art and medicine could blend to enhance quality of life. This experience reminded me of a professor's advice to embrace curiosity and channel our "inner Alice" in the sciences. As a proud Mexican American pursuing medicine, I have learned the importance of balancing the rigors of science with the beauty of life outside academia. One of my favorite quotes is: “Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” It reminds me that to truly pour into others, we must first fill our own cups. For me, that means finding strength and grace in the challenges that lie ahead and inspiring others to do the same.
