Growing up in Miami surrounded by Latinos, I came to understand the deep struggle between pride in one’s roots and the painful necessity of leaving them behind. My stepfather’s Cuban-American heritage and my mother’s Venezuelan background exposed me to countless stories of sacrifice and resilience—no one wants to leave home, but sometimes they must.
When I visited a Cuban photography exhibition, it deeply resonated with me. One image, capturing someone mid-air as they leaped from the Malecón, stirred a wave of emotions. Was it a carefree dive to escape the summer heat, a playful dare, or a powerful symbol of longing—the hopes of many Cubans who dream of leaving their beloved island in search of a better future? The layers within that single moment reflected the complexity of migration, a theme that has shaped my perspective and the stories of those I hold close, inspiring the poem.
The journey in medicine is long and challenging, but truly rewarding. I hope to inspire others to express their emotions through writing. I’m sharing with you a collection of poems that reflect a year of struggle—a journey where writing helped me process and cope with my emotions.
This is a poem inspired by the song "Querida yo" sung by Yami Safdie and Camilo. It is supposed to be a reminder that to not give up, even though obstacles may come up and things may not go my way. I'm still on my way to accomplish my goal and I'll make it even if sometimes it might not feel like it.
This is a poem based on a hobby, which is playing video games. It's in the form of a story where I arrive home after a day of work or studying and relax with playing different games, such as mario kart and pokemon, before going to bed.
"1st Gen Dreamer" is a poem that reflects my journey as a first-generation medical student, navigating the challenges of coming from a disadvantaged background while striving to succeed in the medical field. The poem highlights the intersection of personal resilience, cultural identity, and the profound desire to give back to underserved communities.
I recently wrote this poem to emphasize the importance of resilience and self-confidence in achieving success. The poem reflects how I felt before starting medical school—I was filled with doubt, fear, and uncertainty along the process, but perseverance is what carried me through. With anything else in life, staying determined and trusting yourself can make all the difference in what turns dreams into reality and challenges into stepping stones for success.

This poem is about me living with my brother as he tries to beat his addiction. It’s about the constant back and forth between hope and frustration but ultimately never giving up.
"Is Green the Color of Everything?" is a deeply personal poem that explores how a single moment, a single word, can transform our perception of the world. Through nostalgia and introspection, the poem reflects on how love, memory, and connection can reshape something as simple as a color into a symbol of profound meaning.
This piece is part of my debut poetry collection, a project that I am currently developing. In this collection, I seek to capture emotions tied to love, loss, and identity. Each poem serves as a fragment of a larger journey—one that seeks to preserve fleeting moments and the feelings they leave behind.

A rhythmic tale of the emotions and struggles encountered by many who journey to the US for a better future.
