Danisa Oyola Soto
Danisa Oyola Soto is currently a third-year medical student at Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico. She was born and raised in Bayamón, where she saw firsthand the impact of limited healthcare access. At a young age, she witnessed her mother’s health deteriorate due to delays in diagnosing and managing her diabetes. As a consequence of the shortage of specialized physicians, her mother was forced to wait over a year for the care she needed. The preventable complications that followed left a lasting mark on their lives. This experience ignited Danisa’s passion for medicine and motivated her to advocate for better healthcare access for underserved communities. From a young age, Danisa had a deep love for both science and creativity. She attended the public fine arts high school, Pablo Casals, in Bayamón, where she developed her skills in drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and painting. Over time, she realized she could combine her artistic talents with her passion for medicine. Her artwork has been showcased in medical spaces, including the cover of the first Medical Student Orthopedic Society (MSOS) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Summit in 2023 and at the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) Annual Meeting in 2025. Outside of her medical and creative pursuits, Danisa enjoys running and staying active, hoping to encourage her future patients to embrace the same principles of health and movement. She’s especially interested in physiatry and aspires to help patients regain movement and improve their quality of life. With a deep commitment to human connection, Danisa is dedicated to blending art, medicine, and empathy in her practice to make healthcare more accessible and compassionate.
