Mental

health is important

as we learn how chemical imbalances

affect our patient's

Health.

We learn about neurotransmitters involved in

depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders,

but they fail to discuss other

Matters,

Like how to deal with imposter syndrome

and the crushing pressures of national exams.

But

We should be stronger than this, they claim,

med students should be able to

overcome anything, if they

Only

go to yoga three times a week and eat healthy,

but only if it doesn't interrupt

their expected 12 hour studying session at the library.

If

those aren't enough for you,

or juggling responsibility is too difficult,

You

Probably shouldn't be in medical school.

Therapy and medication are valid treatments for patients, they

Aren't

Options a physician should ever use;

They imply mental weakness that physicians cannot afford to have.

How will patients ever trust you if

The

Very training they trust you've had

Has sent you spiraling?

Emotions are not for physicians, empathy

Should be manufactured, you should never be the

One

In the patient's shoes, seeking help for

Thoughts that are much too loud,

Trusting that the doctor

Prescribing

Your Medication understands the condition they're treating,

But only

From a textbook.
