Adventures of The Bici Guy (self portrait)

Adventures of The Bici Guy captures the movement, energy, and nostalgia of a life shaped by two wheels. My first memories were of riding my bicycle in the neighborhood of Bell Gardens, CA, a city that at that time was divided between Whites and Browns. I weaved through streets where chain-link fences barely held back restless chickens, their clucking and flapping wings mixing with the distant hum of passing cars and the sharp barks of neighborhood dogs. The bici was more than just a way to get around—it was freedom, a way to elude the gangs and threats that loomed over the neighborhood, to carve my own path through streets that didn’t always feel safe. The visuals my eyes captured—the colors, the chaos, the movement—imprinted themselves in my brain, becoming inspirations that forged my creative ways and eventually inspired my art. In that expression, I found a voice before I even knew how to use words. Art became the first way I communicated with the world, laying the foundation for my intellectual growth. It became the platform that carried me forward, from a field of fears to a field of medicine, where my mind could race ahead, mapping a future beyond the streets I once rode.
