Mission
Our mission is to recruit and train physicians who are committed to eliminating disparities in health care access and outcomes by providing superior health and human services for culturally diverse communities in Southern California.

Patient Population
AltaMed South Gate Clinic and its partnering hospital serve a majority of Spanish speaking population. We offer a 1 month elective opportunity of global health or medical Spanish. The majority of our patients (80%) identify as BIPOC. About 20% are uninsured. More than 50% are below poverty level. About 78% are patients with Medicaid.
The AltaMed Family Medicine Residency Program emphasizes outpatient care and community medicine with Family and Community Medicine (FCM) rotations in every graduate training year. Each of these rotations has a theme, including:

We offer opportunities for residents to formulate their our concentrations if they wish so. We offer a track in Health Equity Research, and Medical Education.

About 50% of our residents pursue a specialized fellowship, such as: community medicine fellowship, sport medicine fellowship, hospitalist fellowship, sleep medicine fellowship, and pain management fellowship

Wellness
Our purpose is to create an infrastructure at AltaMed Family Medicine Residency Program that supports Resident Physician wellness. We aim to establish an environment of learning conducive to a culture of respect and accountability for physician well-being by embedding wellness practices in the residency training curriculum to engage the program at all levels.

How does your residency address residents' concerns?
Residents can report in a protected manner that is free from reprisal. Residents may report in the following ways:

The resident may bring his or her concerns to the Program Director.

If the resident is uncomfortable approaching the Program Director, s/he may contact the AltaMed DIO.
-
AltaMed provides an anonymous and confidential Compliance Hotline Service, available 24/7.
-
Residents may contact their peer representatives through AltaMed’s Residents’ Forum.

Residents may also directly contact AltaMed’s Human Resources, who will review any situation and provide guidance.
What support does your residency offer to residents with families/children?
We are a family-friendly residency program. Family involvement is always welcome and encouraged during retreats and we work closely to address scheduling needs for parental leave.
